About Me

Hi, I’m Andrea Fomera
I’m a Senior Software Engineer at Soundstripe, working remotely from the mountains of Colorado 🏔. I specialize in building polished, performant applications with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript. I care deeply about creating tools that empower people, and I thrive at the intersection of product development, teaching, and indie hacking.

My journey into code

I’ve been obsessed with computers for as long as I can remember—taking them apart, upgrading hard drives, and building small websites in HTML and CSS as a teenager. I dabbled in PHP but didn’t fall in love with programming until a friend introduced me to Ruby and Sinatra in 2012. Everything clicked when I found Ruby on Rails in 2014, and by 2016 I was writing Rails professionally.

Since then, I’ve spent years honing my skills as a full-stack developer, delivering features that are thoughtful, user-friendly, and maintainable.

Sharing what I know

I’m passionate about teaching and contributing to the developer community. I’ve spoken at industry conferences like:
  • Rails World 2024Pushing the Boundaries with ActiveStorage GitHub
  • RailsConf 2022Upgrading Rails: Everyone Can Do It and Here's How
I’ve also released my first two courses, Learn Rails by Building Instagram, and Learn Hotwire By Building a Forum, to help others break into Rails development. Teaching is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work, and I’m always looking for more ways to share what I’ve learned.

What I’m up to now

These days, I split my time between engineering at Soundstripe and working on side projects that help developers and small teams move faster. I believe in building tools that are simple, powerful, and a joy to use.
