Andrea Fomera

About Me

Hi, I'm Andrea Fomera. I'm a Senior Software Engineer working remotely from the mountains of Colorado. I specialize in building polished, performant applications with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript.

My journey into code

I've been fascinated by computers for as long as I can remember—taking them apart as a kid, building websites as a teenager. I discovered Ruby and Sinatra in 2012 through a friend, found Ruby on Rails in 2014, and by 2016 I was writing Rails professionally.

Since then, I've worked at companies like Podia and Soundstripe, building everything from live chat systems and custom text editors to full-stack architecture migrations. I care deeply about writing maintainable code and helping teams ship great products.

I'm also on the Hanami Maintainer Team, contributing to the Ruby web framework ecosystem beyond Rails.

Sharing what I know

I love sharing what I've learned with the community. I've spoken at major Ruby conferences and create courses to help developers level up.

What I'm up to now

I'm currently looking for my next opportunity while staying busy with side projects designed to help developers and teams work more efficiently. Whether it's Flagstack (feature flags for Rails), RubyEnv (macOS Ruby management), or Spin (development environment manager), I'm always building something.

I'm also deepening my skills in Swift and Java, and I share my journey through occasional speaking engagements and writing.
